Who we need
Reporting to the Senior Director, Human Resources, we are looking for a Manager, Human Resources to join our team. You will provide ongoing human resource and people management guidance and recommendations to leaders in a unionized environment. You will oversee a team of three HR Generalists and directly contribute to the human resources strategy, policies, and practices, encompassing talent acquisition and development, labour and employee relations, onboarding, HRIS, performance management, payroll and benefits administration, WSIB and employee relations. As the subject matter expert, you will take ownership of developing, coordinating, and implementing programs, policies, learning and development, and practices that foster inclusivity, diversity, equality, and accessibility (IDEA) within the organization.
Please note that this is a permanent non-bargaining unit position working full time, 35 hours/week, with the requirement to be in the office five days per week.

How you will make an impact:
- Champion equity, diversity, and belonging. You will stay ahead of best practices in equity, diversity, belonging and organizational development. By collaborating with the ABR Committee and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion leadership, you will embed inclusive principles into our programs, goals, and processes. You will ensure our practices in hiring, performance evaluation, and compensation support a diverse, inclusive, collaborative organizational culture.
- Manage the team. You will be a coach and mentor to three HR Generalists, providing direction and support on their day-to-day work in recruitment, payroll, and more. You will complete performance reviews, remove roadblocks, and manage conflict as needed.
- Administer the collective agreement. You will coach leaders to ensure compliance with the Collective Agreement, address grievances, and facilitate investigations or mediations to restore team harmony. You can foster working relationships and effectively navigate information sharing. You will ensure our hiring, performance management, communication, and other employee policies adhere to union procedures.
- Contribute to strategy. You will actively participate in organizational initiatives and committees, driving the success of the Strategic Plan. You will actively participate in and lead HR and People projects that align with our values, promote our culture of equality and belonging, and nurture a welcoming and positive work environment. You will lead process modernization and oversee HRIS updates, including implementing the ADP Recruitment Portal.
- Employee relations and engagement. You will be a trusted advisor to employees and managers to foster a workplace with highly engaged and satisfied teams. You will work with managers to ensure performance evaluation processes are fair, consistent, and aligned with the collective agreement and the goals of our organization. You will develop initiatives to enhance employee engagement and satisfaction, leveraging data from engagement surveys, exit interviews and turnover reports.
- Oversee end-to-end recruitment. You will partner with leadership to develop bias-free strategies that attract full-time, contract, casual, and student candidates dedicated to our mission. You will welcome new team members and set them up for success from day one. You will engage new employees with the YouthLink approach with comprehensive and thoughtful onboarding and orientation.
- Manage employee data. You will maintain accurate, confidential employee records, conduct regular audits, and generate reports to support management decisions. You will oversee payroll, time tracking, and benefits administration, addressing escalated issues.
What you bring:
- The knowledge. You have a 3-year diploma or a university degree in Human Resources, and ideally, you have or are working towards a CHRP/CHRL designation. You have participated in coursework demonstrating your desire for continual learning in Equity, Diversity and Belonging practices. You understand the highly confidential nature of human resources work and the vital importance of building trust with managers and employees. You are discrete and fair.
- The leadership skills. You have worked as a team supervisor for at least 1 year managing attendance, conducting performance appraisals, and identifying professional development and career path opportunities for your direct reports. You enjoy growing skills and nurturing confidence and trust within teams. You lead by example and take a coaching approach to guiding and managing your team's work.
- The experience. You have followed a career trajectory in HR as a Generalist or in a specialty area for at least 3 years. You have deep experience supporting managers, ideally within a unionized environment. You have an understanding of the full recruitment cycle and payroll administration. You have proven experience managing multiple HR specialties in a small organization or one HR specialty in a large organization, including planning, performance management, absenteeism management and problem-solving. You have demonstrated skill in equity, diversity, and inclusion practice and have experience applying an anti-Black racism lens to workplace processes, policy building, and application.
- The technical skills. You are comfortable managing data in an HRIS and can come up to speed with ADP’s HR and Benefits module and Workforce Now. You are proficient with MS Office Suite. You have outstanding administrative, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- The interpersonal skills. You have exceptional verbal and written communication skills and can tailor your approach to connect to people at all levels with sensitivity, tact, empathy, and professionalism. You can expertly navigate conflict and manage tense or stressful situations. You can project an open approach and are always willing to respond to inquiries and share information.
- The ownership and accountability. You have experience contributing to an HR and Recruitment vision and strategy. You have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, shift priorities as needed, handle interruptions and meet deadlines. You promote collaboration and foster an environment that embraces continuous learning, promotes innovation, and effectively guides change. You are solution-oriented and results-driven.
